Myra Hindley

Myra Hindley

Born in July 1942 in Manchester, Myra grew up with her grandmother after her sister, Maureen, was born. After the death of a close friend when she was 15, she left school and converted to roman catholicicsm. In 1961 she started working for a company called Millwards and there she met Ian Brady. She fell in love with him almost immediately and became under his control. She wrote things in her diary which showed her fascination for Brady and was glad when the danced together at the christmas party and when he tried to kiss her after he walked her home. He then took her on a date to watch "The Nuremburg Trials" which was not something one would usually watch on a date. By this point, Hindley knew there was something different about Brady and that she would never be bored. In 1966 she was jailed for life for the murders of John Kilbride, Pauline Reade, Lesley Ann Downey, Edward Evans and Keith Bennett. In 1970, she severed all contact with Brady and still pleaded her innocence. In 1987, she released a full confession; her subsequent applications for parole were denied. She died of respiratory failure in November 2002.
